INDIANAPOLIS — The organization that owns the Murat Temple in downtown Indianapolis has filed a lawsuit over a deal putting a bank’s name on the century-old building.
The Murat Temple Association says in the lawsuit that Live Nation Worldwide didn’t have authority to sell naming rights to Evansville-based Old National Bank. The Shriners affiliate is asking for a Marion County judge to revert the Old National Centre’s name back to Murat Centre.
Live Nation runs the venue under a 99-year lease signed in 1995 with the city of Indianapolis and the Shriners. Its 2,500-seat theater is a frequent site of concerts and Broadway shows.
Murat Shrine Club Potentate Craig Hinshaw says the lawsuit was necessary to preserve the group’s rights.
A message seeking comment was left for theater manager Terry Hennessy.
