Professor appointed to National Academy of Sciences

John S. Applegate has been appointed to the National Academy of Sciences Nuclear and Radiation Studies Board by Dr. Ralph J. Cicerone, chairman of the National Research Council.

Applegate is currently the Walter W. Foskett Professor of Law at the IU Maurer School of Law and IU vice president for planning and policy. He has been a professor for more than 20 years and has served as chair of the Fernald Citizens Advisory Board.

The NRSB is part of the National Academy of Sciences that oversees the studies of the application of radiation-based technologies.

“I am honored to be appointed to the NRSB,” Applegate said in an IU press release. “With its emphasis on research of the highest quality in the public service, the board’s mission aligns closely with my areas of interest and experience. I look forward to contributing to the NRSB’s work.”

His appointment will last until December 2012.
