From the Scottish band Frightened Rabbit, comes the new and wonderfully composed “Winter of Mixed Drinks."
According to lead singer Scott Hutchinson, this album was more of an intellectual and musical endeavor, as they put a very large amount of work into the writing, composing and recording. It also features a list of many musicians who sat in and played (mostly classical) instruments.
In an interview with blog/zine God is in the TV, Hutchinson reveals a history behind the album’s title, “I think we've all had odd, lonely, fallow periods in life, where you find yourself detached from everything, drifting and lost. That's what it means to me, but most importantly, it's the moments of joy afterwards during recovery that defines the dark period.”
The Scottish origins of this band are noticeable through their high-strung and folky melodies behind a glamorous and experimental rock sound. With soulful choruses and a shaky voice that tears at the heart, “Mixed Drinks” is a well thought-out and composed album that tells a story and basks in the beauty that is music.
Mix of beautiful sounds
