FORT WAYNE, Ind. — Parents and students are protesting a plan for closing one of Fort Wayne’s six high school in a budget-cutting move.
A crowd of some 700 people packed the Elmhurst High School auditorium for a hearing on the plan Wednesday night, with many of them shouting at and berating district officials.
Superintendent Wendy Robinson said the move to close Elmhurst was needed because of a $9 million cut in state funding.
Several at the meeting said Elmhurst was unfairly picked for closing and claimed that district officials have made up their minds despite the protests.
A School Board vote on the proposal is expected March 22.
