Well, what did you expect? “The Wolfman” is a very predictable movie about a man, Lawrence Talbot (Benicio Del Toro), who becomes a werewolf, terrorizes a town and must reconcile himself with what he’s become.
The effects are sometimes great with some satisfying scenes of werewolf carnage and grisly entrails. Of particular note are the transformation scenes that are done well.
The acting is quite good, with several moments where simply watching Anthony Hopkins (who plays Talbot’s father) or Hugo Weaving (a Scotland Yard detective) act was a delight in itself. Sadly, this does not save a film where neither the plot nor characters have any development.
The attack scenes are good, with some genuine surprises in the beginning and with director Joe Johnston finding ways to make even jaded audiences jump. But in the end it’s just another film about a guy who turns into a wolf. If that’s enough for you, then by all means, enjoy.
