Homeless man found in IMU

A homeless man is facing a preliminary charge of criminal trespass after he was found sleeping on the floor of a bathroom in the Indiana Memorial Union on Saturday.

IU Police Department Officer Joshua Sung was dispatched to the IMU in response to a call of a white homeless male on the eighth floor. The man was able to verbally identify himself.

“The subject was unable to maintain his balance and officers smelled alcohol on his breath,” IUPD Lt. Craig Munroe said.

The individual was handcuffed and searched. Officers discovered an unopened pint of vodka which was disposed of.

The man was transported to Bloomington Hospital and eventually moved to Monroe County Jail after he was cleared by doctors, Munroe said.

“His blood alcohol concentration was three times the legal limit,” Munroe said.
The preliminary charge of trespass is a Class-A misdemeanor.
