Double shot of Americana

The first few seconds of bass on the Watson Twins’ “Talking to You, Talking to Me” will inevitably lead to dancing. It might start with head nod, then a groove, but by the time the vocals kick in on “Modern Man,” it will be uncontrollable.

Leigh and Chandra Watson’s vocals are strong, clear and instantly enveloping. The vocals become an instrument in themselves, powerful at times, breezy and breathy at others. Although the Watson Twins are recognized for their Americana sound, they don’t hesitate to take risks, mixing elements of jazz, pop and R &B.

“Savin’ You” is particularly upbeat and catchy, juxtaposed with slower, more soulful songs like “Midnight.” Ending on an upbeat note, “U-N-Me” is short and sweet. With poppy backing vocals, the listener may not even catch the slight melancholy of the lyrics.

The Watson Twins’ talent is evident in their second full-length effort. “Talking to You, Talking to Me” is coffee shop worthy, but hardly sleepy.
