High school vandalized, two students arrested
Two students of a southern Indiana high school were arrested after the school’s principal recognized them on security video causing widespread vandalism in the building. Ellettsville police said the principal of Edgewood High School discovered the break-in Sunday night.
The vandals threw metal chairs, basketball goals and awards into the school’s pool and covered the main gymnasium with sports equipment, paper towels and bath tissue. A vending machine was smashed, and some electronic devices and cash were reported stolen. Town Marshal Anthony Bowlen said it was a “senseless crime” and the teens didn’t tell officers why they broke into the school.
Monon has the best water in the state
A northern Indiana town has bragging rights after its drinking water was declared the tastiest in the state. The White County town of Monon earned the best-tasting water designation by beating out eight other cities in a competition sponsored by the Alliance of Indiana Rural Water.
Monon utility superintendent Dave Scott said he isn’t sure why the town about 35 miles north of Lafayette won top honors. But he said that in 2002, Monon drilled two new wells and built a new treatment facility. That plant removes iron from the water, softens it and adds fluoride to it.
State legislature may adjourn early
Leaders in the Indiana House say it’s possible the General Assembly could adjourn before a March 14 deadline.
Democratic House Speaker Patrick Bauer of South Bend said lawmakers got an early jump on the session by holding some committee hearings in December before the full General Assembly convened this month.
He said he’s trying to move legislation quickly in hopes of finishing early but doesn’t know whether that can be done. Republican House Minority Leader Brian Bosma of Indianapolis also said he thinks the legislature could adjourn early, perhaps by the first few days of March.
