This Christmas the city of Bloomington and B97 FM are teaming up to bring the “12 Strays of Christmas” to the Bloomington community, trying to find homes for cats, dogs and two rats.
Laurie Ringquist, city animal shelter director, said the program began four years ago when B97 approached them with the idea.
“It raises awareness in the Bloomington community about adopting animals,” she said.
So far this year, five pets have been adopted.
The program consists of a holiday adoption initiative to highlight some of the animals available for adoption at the city animal shelter as part of the “Be Bloomington” campaign, which encourages people in the community to be compassionate.
The campaign began Dec. 7 and will run through Dec. 22.
Every day B97 FM will feature a cat and dog on their Web site at www.wbwb.com. The staff from the animal shelter will also be calling in live each day to B97’s morning show to provide information about the animal shelter and talk about the animals available for adoption.
“We are really appreciative of B97,” Ringquist said. “It is a great promotion and a great partnership.”
