INDIANAPOLIS – The trial is starting for a man accused of taking part in a 2006 robbery during which three children and four adults were fatally shot in an Indianapolis home.
Jury selection started Monday in the trial of 33-year-old James Stewart of Indianapolis. Authorities believe Stewart’s handgun fired just one of the shots that hit the victims, but he still could be liable for all the murders within Indiana law.
Desmond Turner was convicted of being the main triggerman and was sentenced this month to life in prison without parole. Turner waived his right to a jury trial, but Stewart will be tried by a jury.
Prosecutors are not seeking the death penalty or a life sentence for Stewart. Testimony is expected to start Thursday and take about two weeks.
