Wake Forest bounces IU from NCAA tournament

The  No. 13 Hoosiers (14-7, 4-2) ended their NCAA tournament run with a 2-0 loss in the first round to No. 7 Wake Forest (13-6).

IU fought hard against the Demon Deacons, but it wasn’t enough. They shut out the Hoosiers.

The last time the Hoosiers were in the tournament, they were also bumped by Wake Forest 5-0 in the second round.

The Demon Deacons got off to an early lead with a goal at the 11th minute from forward Kim Romansky.

In the first half, IU missed an important opportunity to capitalize off a penalty stroke from senior forward Haley Funk.

Neither team scored again before halftime, giving Wake Forest a 1-0 lead with 35 minutes to play.

The Demon Deacons scored again late in the second half with a goal from forward Hilary Moore off an assist from midfielder Aileen Davis in the 59th minute.

There was a major improvement from last season’s 7-11 record and last place finish in the Big Ten to this years 14-7 record for IU.

The Hoosiers won seven of their last 10 games, including games played in the Big Ten and NCAA tournament.

The Hoosiers ended the season tied for second in the Big Ten and earned second place in the Big Ten tournament.
