Suddenly appearing on crowded Monday nights last spring, ABC’s “Castle” was sort of underappreciated and glossed over by many viewers. If you were one of those viewers, now’s your chance to catch this well-written cop dramedy.
“Castle” stars Nathan Fillion as Richard Castle, author of a ridiculously popular series of crime novels that has just ended with the death of his main character, and Stana Katic as Detective Kate Beckett, a NYPD cop with emotional baggage relating to her mother’s murder.
Our two main characters are thrust together when a serial killer begins terrorizing New York, staging his victims according to descriptions found in Castle’s novels. Castle is hired on as a consultant for the NYPD and Beckett is forced to work with him.
If you’re thinking that this is a pretty standard set-up, you’re correct. But like “Bones,” another show about unlikely partners, the chemistry of this show’s stars, along with Fillion’s smug delivery, make it something well above average.
The extras on the DVD are sadly standard, though any blooper reel with Nathan Fillion is automatically more awesome.
