Surprisingly delicious

"Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs"

Looking for something fun and filling at the theater? You won’t do much better than “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs.”

This cute kids flick will delight older audiences as well, and keep you laughing (and hungry) the entire time.

“Meatballs” is a loose adaptation from the children’s book of the same name. It takes the basic premise of the absentminded inventor who figures out how to make it rain food and adds characters while fleshing out existing ones. All of it is done in a way that feels fresh and fun instead of shallow and tacked on.

With voice talent from Bill Hader, Anna Faris, Andy Samberg, Bruce Campbell and Mr. T, the comedy is in good hands and feels quirky, clever and only rarely childish.

This little film is a nice surprise in the current box office dry spell. It’s a nice little snack between the hearty feasts of summer and holiday movies. It’s pleasing to the palate, and doesn’t disappoint.
