After being hailed as a major inspiration for the “Twilight” book series, Muse’s fifth studio release, “The Resistance,” serves up another round of tracks that are sure to fit in the film version of the series’ soundtrack.
The lyrical content on “The Resistance” is filled with charged political views and independence, as the album’s first single “Uprising” glaringly proves: “Rise up and take the power back / It’s time the fat cats had a heart attack.” However, this is far from uncharted territory for Muse, as this album’s lyrical content is eerily similar to that found on their last album, “Black Holes & Revelations.”
Though the lyrics show no progression, the album’s sounds maneuver from Muse’s synth-barring roots to more symphonic melodies. The final three tracks, appropriately titled “Exogenesis: Symphony,” are a perfect combination of the band’s attempt to explore future realms of music while still keeping true to the pillars of their sound.
More than just the blood sucking fans of “Twilight” should enjoy this album. Any fan of the alternative rock style will find the hard riffs and political agenda found on “The Resistance” worthwhile.
Solid effort from ‘Twilight’ author’s favorite band
