McRobbie announces $300 tuition break for Hoosier students with a B average

Michael McRobbie

IU President Michael McRobbie announced University Incentive Grants today, a move he hopes will help offset the high costs of college for in-state students and possibly  appease a state senator who has been reluctant to approve plans for new IU building projects after July’s tuition increase.

The grants will give in-state students in Bloomington and Indianapolis the opportunity to earn $300 toward next year’s tuition if they get a B average both semesters this year.

Students earning a B average on other IU campuses will have the opportunity to earn $200 toward tuition.

The grants are an expansion of McRobbie’s Degrees of Excellence initiative, one of the cornerstones of his efforts to maintain affordability since his inauguration in 2006.

The awards will apply to all full-time IU undergraduates. While current seniors can earn the grant in just one semester and apply it to spring tuition costs, freshmen, sophomores and juniors must earn 3.0 grade point averages in both fall 2009 and spring 2010.
