It’s the beginning of the year. You’re all fired up, still telling yourself that you’ll be well rested and getting all A’s this semester (a 4.0 for the first time ever! We’re sure it’ll happen...). The hangover from Welcome Week hasn’t even set in yet.
Despite the fact that during the next few weeks your bright eyes and bushy tails will evanesce along with your enthusiasm, keep in mind that all of your hard work will eventually pay off.
For the returning students and alumni of the Kelley School of Business, the IU School of Library and Information Science, the IU School of Education and the IU Maurer School of Law, as well as four programs in the College of Arts and Sciences, it already has. U.S. News and World Report ranked these graduate schools and programs in the top 25 in their most recent release.
The hard work of students, alumni, faculty and those supportive of the programs through donations can all be credited for the successful rankings.
“It is very gratifying to see our departments and faculty recognized for their excellent scholarship,” said Bennett Bertenthal, dean of the IU College of Arts and Sciences in a press release.
The Arts and Sciences programs in sociology, English, history and psychology were all recognized in the top 25.
We would like to commend all the hard-working Hoosiers whose accomplishments and dedication have been nationally recognized.
While it is certainly true that there is much more to every department and program than rankings and numbers, it is still nice to see IU’s awesomeness in a quantified format.
As IU students, we know that our school boasts the qualities of great academia. But nothing is wrong with a little acknowledgment of our scholarship in U.S. News and World Report.
Keep up the good work, Hoosiers.
Being part of IU’s awesomeness
