INDIANAPOLIS – High-speed rail supporters are praising Indiana’s efforts to land federal stimulus money that’s set aside for construction of high-speed passenger rail lines.
Members of a bipartisan rail coalition said they’re delighted Indiana recently submitted three pre-applications for the stimulus funding. That’s the first step in tapping part of $8 billion in stimulus money set aside to design and build regional high-speed rail networks.
Roger Sims of the Indiana High Speed Rail Association said Gov. Mitch Daniels’ administration has taken a “significant step” to bringing intercity high-speed rail service to
Indiana.
Tim Maloney of the Hoosier Environmental Council said high-speed rail would bring Indiana new jobs, economic development and reduced highway congestion.
