In front of the Sample Gates Friday evening, about forty people assembled to light candles, listen to music and pray for the people of Iran.
Candles were spread across the stone flower bed terraces in front of the gates along with signs reading “Stop Massacring My People.”
The candlelight vigil, organized by Iranian students, took place as a peaceful protest of the June 12 announcement of disputed presidential election results in Iran. Government officials named President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad the winner of the election over opposition leader Mir Hossein-Mousavi.
