RICHMOND – IU East Richmond is celebrating its new chancellor, but the campus in Richmond isn’t throwing a traditional party for him.
A traditional chancellor-installation ceremony marks the beginning of a new chapter for a campus. But IU East Chancellor Nasser Paydar decided to forgo the pomp and circumstance, saying he preferred to use the money to make a lasting impact on the campus instead of hosting a lavish affair.
So IU East will spend the money for the ceremony on a campus beautification initiative instead. The project includes a sculpture garden with artwork from students, faculty members and regional artists.
Paydar was named interim chancellor in July 2007 and became chancellor this January.
