IU officially announces new dean of students

IU alumnus, and one of four candidates for the position as the new IU Dean of Students, Pete Goldsmith addresses questions from the audience April 1 in the Wells-Metz Theatre. Goldsmith currently works as the vice president for enrollment and student affairs at Kent State University.

IU officially announced Thursday that IU alumnus Pete Goldsmith will be the next dean of students.

“Pete is a highly accomplished student affairs professional who will bring a great depth of experience to the position,” said Provost Karen Hanson. “He has a proven record as an administrator who is profoundly responsive to student needs, and he is clearly driven by a desire to help students succeed. I am delighted to welcome him back to Bloomington.”

Goldsmith, vice president for enrollment management and student affairs at Kent State University, is replacing Dean of Students Dick McKaig, who retires July 31.

“Indiana has been a very important part of my life,” Goldsmith said in a press release. “I look forward to returning to provide leadership for student affairs at the University.”

Goldsmith’s appointment is pending approval by the IU board of trustees.
