Boater dies after fall into Lake Monroe

Authorities say a 54-year-old man died after falling from a boat into southern Indiana’s Lake Monroe.

Indiana Conservation Officer Angela Goldman said Hoover Settle Jr. was with his wife when he fell into the water Saturday afternoon.

A fellow boater heard calls for help and several people on shore joined in trying to save the man.

Settle was given CPR on shore but was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at Bloomington Hospital.

Goldman said the man had no visible injuries, making it likely that he drowned.
