Btown is the unofficial winner of this year’s IU Student Association election, said Elizabeth Retana, IUSA election coordinator.
After two days of voting, Btown received 3,991 votes while 3,365 votes were cast for Red-Hot. ONE University, who announced they would cease campaigning on Monday night, came in third place with 128 votes.
Btown ticket members said they are glad their hard work and commitment to their ticket paid off.
“The Btown ticket was composed of outstanding people who spent so much time and work spreading out message over the past two days,” said junior Peter SerVaas, IUSA president elect.
SerVaas said the Red-Hot ticket was good competition.
“We were impressed and happy to compete with students on the Red-Hot ticket and welcome their work in IUSA with Btown,” SerVaas said.
Even though, ONE University “dropped out” of the race Monday night, ONE University presidential candidate Ben Blair said he was glad Btown won the election.
“It certainly shows a lot of people rooting for them,” Blair said. “We are glad someone who shared our values ended up winning.”
On behalf of the Red-Hot ticket, presidential candidate Andrew Hahn said, “We congratulate Btown for their success in this year’s IUSA election.”
