Women’s Golf
Hoosiers finish 6th at IU Invite

Battling snow, rain, wind and near-freezing temperatures, the IU women’s golf team took sixth place at the IU Invitational in Columbus, Ind.

“The course conditions were challenging, but I thought we hung in there and found a way to grind it out,” IU coach Clint Wallman said.

The Hoosiers were led by junior Anita Gahir, who followed her near-record performance in Arizona with a team-leading +18 overall. Gahir took home Big Ten Women’s Golfer of the Week honors last week, but her strong play at Otter Creek Golf Club could not keep the Hoosiers from snapping IU’s two-tournament presence in the top five.

Gahir finished 10th individually, and junior Laura Nochta joined her in the top 20, finishing 18th.

The Hoosiers have one more tournament, the Lady Buckeye Invitational, before the Big Ten Championships in West Lafayette.

“You always want to do better at your home event,” Wallman said. “But I think this is great practice for our final two events of the regular season.”

Men’s Golf
Team ends with 14th-place

With a Big Ten victory and a top five national ranking, the IU men’s golf team looked poised for an easy road to the NCAA Championships this season.

However, in the United States Collegiate Championship, the No. 4 Hoosiers slipped near the bottom of the field for the first time this spring, finishing 12th out of 15 teams.

IU ended day one in 14th place and worked its way up to 12th on day two, where it would ultimately finish.

The Hoosiers were led by senior Seth Brand and freshman Chase Wright, who tied for 26th at four over par. Senior Jorge Campillo wasn’t far behind, placing 33rd at five over par.

The team struggled to its worst performance of the year and will return home this weekend for the adidas Hoosier Invitational at the IU Golf Course.
