1 dead, 1 injured in crash on county line

One person is dead and another is hospitalized after a crash near the Owen and Monroe county line.

The victims were sitting in a vehicle facing westbound on State Road 46 at Sunnyside Drive, waiting to turn into traffic when a second vehicle rear-ended them, pushing them into the eastbound lane. The victims then collided head-on with a vehicle traveling in the eastbound lane.

The driver of the vehicle who rear-ended the victims was cited for speeding too fast to avoid collision and following too closely, and consented to a blood draw when he was transported to the hospital. Indiana State Police Sgt. Curt Durnil said at this time there is no reason to believe he was intoxicated.

The driver of the vehicle who collided head-on with the victims refused medical treatment at the scene.
