Obama and respect

I am an international student who studies at IU. As a freshman, I am interested in all the new things around me. I am enjoying the different atmosphere in the United States, as well as the campus’ life.

I think the best way to be familiar with another country is living in the country and being aware of its news. I think the hottest news recently is that President Barack Obama became the first black president of the United States.

I think Obama is the pride of many, and I am also very happy to see that all the people in the United States are living in harmony. I read the book “A Lesson before Dying” recently, and the race discrimination in that book is very serious. The African-American boy, Jefferson, who was accused of murder, got a death sentence without any proof to show he was guilty. Actually, he did not do anything except appear at the wrong place at the wrong time. What most shocked me is that the judge, who is the symbol of the justice, could give a man a death sentence without any reason.

But as the time goes on, discrimination disappears gradually. The best proof is that Obama became the president of America. Nowadays how people select a president depends on whether he has the ability to lead the country and never depends on the race. In my opinion, each one is equal, there is no grade on race and no person is noble or humble when he or she is born.

I think Obama will lead the United States to continue booming. Let all people continue live in the harmony and respect.
