Ignorance of conservatism

John Hill’s plug says he’s a senior majoring in economics. From what I can conjecture from Tuesday’s op-ed, I guess that’s why he knows very little about the Republican party, conservatism and, well, politics in general.

Hill seems to assert that the GOP did not win the election because it is conservative. I would like to go out on a limb here and deny that. I would like to propose that the GOP was not practicing conservatism, which is why it lost the election.

Conservatism,  politically speaking, is a philosophy applying to the way in which a government is run – not to be confused with the present conservative moral ideology. The GOP has in the last eight years been practicing big government with good ol’ W as its face.

In addition, to say that Republicans are Rush Limbaugh is a serious faux pas. Rush Limbaugh is not consistently conservative, but I don’t have to point that out, right?

In any case, Hill is doing a fantastic job rallying political ignorance and should stay away from logic courses as much as possible. If he ever learns about logical fallacies, he might have a tougher time writing intelligent and credible op-eds.
