Bloomington Denny’s manager Rich Frank said he has no idea what to expect from Denny’s nationwide free breakfast today.
Denny’s restaurants are offering all dine-in customers a free Grand Slam from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, according to a company press release. Bloomington’s local Denny’s is located at 2160 N. Walnut St.
Frank said since they can’t pre-cook anything, he will have 18 to 20 staff members working, plus managers. The restaurant typically schedules only seven people to work on a Tuesday, he said.
“I will have every available staff member that I can working,” he said, adding he thinks lines will likely be out the door. “We’re just going to do the best we can.”
Frank said more than 100 people have called to see if the Bloomington restaurant would participate in the giveaway since Denny’s ran an ad during the Super Bowl on Sunday.
“I have no idea how many people are going to show up,” he said. “The phone has been ringing off the hook, saying, ‘Are you guys serious?’”
Patrons do not have to purchase anything to get the free breakfast, but there will be no substitutions, he said.
The Grand Slam includes pancakes, eggs, bacon and sausage and is one of the restaurant’s most popular items. Denny’s sells more than 12.5 million Grand
Slams nationwide each year, according to the press release.
The company expects up to 2 million customers across the country to take advantage of the offer.
“They’re basically re-inventing Denny’s for the people who haven’t seen us,” Frank said.
