Crean suspends Dumes indefinitely

IU junior guard Devan Dumes has been suspended indefinitely, IU men’s basketball coach Tom Crean announced Sunday.

During Saturday’s game against Michigan State, Dumes was ejected after picking up a flagrant foul. Dumes threw elbows to several Spartans during the 75-47 loss, including one to Goran Suton’s groin early in the second half.

“After coming home and having the opportunity to review the game film, I believe that discipline is necessary and deserved in this matter,” Crean said in a statement. “A line was crossed that was unacceptable.”

IU’s leading scorer, Dumes will not play when the Hoosiers take on Minnesota on Tuesday. The statement said he would continue to practice and travel with the team.

“I truly regret my actions and I will learn from this situation,” Dumes said in the statement. “I apologize to everyone involved for doing something that is uncharacteristic of how I play the game. I am looking forward to putting this behind me and being a better leader to my teammates.”
