Angelou performance postponed

Maya Angelou’s performance for Sunday has been postponed because of the author’s illness.

The date for her rescheduled speech will be announced soon, according to a press release.

The postponed event was sold out, and the tickets will be honored at the rescheduled date. The tickets were distributed for free.

Angelou’s appearance on Sunday was supposed to end IU’s 25th annual ArtsWeek.

Angelou’s previous visit to IU in April 2001 filled the house, and she received a standing ovation as she spoke on the importance of poetry in everyday life.

“She’s poetic, honest. It’s definitely wonderful to listen to her voice,” coordinator of ArtsWeek Sherry Knighton-Schwandt said.

Angelou has received numerous awards, such as the Mother Teresa Award in August 2006 for her contributions to American literature, theater and society as a humanitarian and civil rights activist.
