Ivy Tech surpasses IU as largest post-secondary educator in the state

IU may no longer claim to be the state’s largest post-secondary educator.

In a report released by the Indiana Commission for Higher Education, Ivy Tech Community College’s annual enrollment for the 2007-2008 academic year reached 120,447 students, nearly 2,000 more than IU, the college announced Tuesday.

The report also stated one out of every three undergraduate students in Indiana attends Ivy Tech.

“We are seeing more and more students seeing the value of the state’s community college system," Ivy Tech President Thomas J. Snyder said in the statement. “Many of those students are taking advantage of our credits that transfer to Indiana University and other four-year colleges and universities while others are earning degrees that are resulting in good-paying careers.”

According to the statement, admission at the college with campuses throughout the state about doubled in the past 10 years.
