College Republicans take different direction post-election, vote for new leaders

Group hopes to ‘run a stronger campaign’ 2012

After a disappointing 2008 election, the IU College Republicans on Monday voted in new leadership for the upcoming year.

Justin Hill, formerly the president of Students for John McCain, will take the reigns as the newest chairman, replacing outgoing chairwoman junior Chelsea Kane.

Hill, a junior, said he will build upon lessons he learned during this election cycle.

“I saw the frustration of not having any resources, and it doesn’t get you very far,” Hill said.

The first priority will be to enlist the help of party leaders at the local and state level willing to help the College Republicans, he said.

Hill said he will move the group forward by “setting up a system where it can continue to grow and set the College Republicans up for a good fight in 2012, when they have the opportunity to run a stronger campaign than we were able to run.”

The new leadership of the College Republicans will include:

• Chairman: Justin Hill, junior

• External Vice Chair: Pat Buschman, junior

• Internal Vice Chair: Amy Stansfield, sophomore

• Secretary: Spenser Burns, sophomore

• Treasurer: Justin Kingsolver, freshman

• Technical Director: Fred Starks, sophomore

• Political Director: Michael Swihart, freshman

• Press Secretary: Jacob Quinn, sophomore

• Events Director: Jessica Howell, junior

• Social Director: Mallory Akin, senior
