HAMMOND, Ind. – The Lake County Convention and Visitors Bureau will celebrate the 25th anniversary of the classic holiday movie “A Christmas Story” with a display in Hammond.
Visitors Bureau President Speros Batistatos said a display will open on Nov. 28 at the Indiana Welcome Center.
The six animated window displays were originally constructed for the Macy’s department store. The bureau paid $75,000 to Warner Bros. to use the display over the next 10 years.
The 1983 movie is set in a fictional city based on Hammond, the hometown of author Gene Shepherd.
The city also plans screenings of the movie and a Ralphie look-alike contest.
