WIUX, IU’s student radio station, is hoping to raise $10,000 during its annual pledge drive.
The event begins at 10 a.m. Friday, and people can call in and donate money until 10 p.m. They can pledge money during the same hours Saturday and Sunday.
The funds will go toward a “huge studio renovation,” as well as “things that will make the station last for another 10 years at least,” said WIUX public relations director and senior Allie Korosi.
The organization raised about $5,000 in one day during the pledge drive last year, so this year’s goal should be feasible, Korosi said.
The average donation is between $20 and $25, she said, although last year’s largest donation was about $600.
Checks for regular donations can be made payable to WIUX. For tax-deductible donations, checks should be made out to the IU Foundation with “WIUX” in the memo.
Korosi stressed the importance of the money from the drive to the radio station’s operation.
“WIUX runs on a student organization budget, but we also run a radio station,” she said, “so we have costs that no other student organizations can really relate to.”
