The Pancake House

I liked John McCain. Even as a Democrat, I was tempted to vote for him (scary thought)! Also as a combat veteran, I honor his distinguished military service. He came on apolitical. He railed against careless, wanton oil drilling. He criticized top-heavy tax cuts for the rich. This old warrior seemed the consummate moderate maverick. Then he sold his political soul to the Bush regime – you know, those folks who have taken America several steps backward economically and internationally.

If McCain is elected, he could be presidential history’s earliest lame duck. He almost certainly will serve only one term. The grueling P.O.W. ordeal, the running around counting all those houses, the four years in the White House will have accelerated his aging. With a Congress that will be increasingly Democratic, he will have no success advancing his newly acquired right-wing agenda. His only option is to move to the center and embrace Democratic issues. This won’t bode well with the neoconservatives. They won’t appreciate witnessing the most flip-flops since the first Pancake House opened.
