14-year-old struck by car, condition unknown

A 14-year-old boy was found unconscious alongside SR 45 on Monday morning after he was struck by a vehicle. His condition is currently unknown.

Monroe County deputies were dispatched at about 5:15 a.m. to the 4400 block of SR 45 in response to a car-pedestrian accident, according to a Monroe County Sheriff's Department press release. When officers arrived at the scene, a Cadillac SUV was facing westbound in the eastbound lane. The boy was found alongside the highway with bystanders attempting to attend to him.

Another teenager who was with the victim told officers that they were riding their bikes to a friend’s home when the victim for unknown reasons swerved in front of the SUV.

The driver of the SUV, Buddy Deluce, 60, told officers he was driving westbound when he swerved to miss the riders.

Deluce was taken to Bloomington Hospital for a blood draw in case of any substances in his system. The victim’s parents told officers that they believed their son was spending the night with a friend.

Although the victim’s condition is not known, officers believe the victim had multiple fractures and possible head injury.
