RPS to hold rock, paper, scissors tourney

Rock, paper, scissors ... shoot!\nResidential Programs and Services will host its first annual “Rock, Paper, Scissors” tournament this month.\nThe competition, which is open only to RPS residents, will begin with preliminary rounds Feb. 20, 21 and 27 in the Foster and Teter residence halls. The finals will be held from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m. Feb. 28 in the Hoosier Den at Gresham Food Court.\nRPS will give a free T-shirt to the first 150 participants. Mother Bear’s, Bloomington Sandwich Company, Bloomington Bagel Company and Cereal Barn are sponsoring the event.\nPam Sprong, RPS assistant director of communications and marketing, said she hopes this event becomes a tradition at IU.\n“Rock, paper, scissors is a game that has even been on ESPN,” she said. “There are all sorts of rule books out now.”\nRPS is promoting the event by giving out rock candy that is attached to cards detailing the dates and times of the competition.\nPrizes will be awarded for the first- and second-place winners. The champion will receive a 19- inch, high-definition, flat-screen TV, while the second place winner will receive a free Cereal Barn t-shirt or mug.\n“A new flat screen TV is a pretty good prize,” said André Vaughn, RPS marketing assistant.\nSophomore Erik O’Brian was unaware of the competition, but when he heard the details and the grand prize, he became interested.\n“I think it is a really cool idea and it sounds like a lot of fun,” he said.
