Looking forward to McRobbie’s future environmental efforts

President McRobbie’s inaugural address last week gave IU students many reasons to be excited. From renovating campus dorms to bringing in outstanding faculty, it seems like the new president of Indiana University has a great vision of the school’s future. Just as notable as last Monday’s IDS article is President McRobbie’s support of sustainability efforts at IU. This past summer President McRobbie granted funding to students who worked on IU’s sustainability taskforce, which in the next weeks will be releasing a comprehensive report of its analysis of various sustainability issues at IU. \nIt will be exciting to see what direction President McRobbie leads us in once we have the wealth of information that this report will provide. Global climate change is possibly the biggest issue the world faces and will continue to face in the coming years. As centers of intellectual power, colleges and universities are uniquely placed to affect America’s energy future and could be the catalyst that drives the nation into sustainable energy independence. Many colleges and universities around the country are already playing leadership roles by finding creative ways to make their campuses more sustainable. I am looking forward to hearing what further ideas President McRobbie has for joining those efforts. \nCarley Knapp\nIU senior
