In response to Jonathan Rossing’s Oct. 10 column entitled, “Deafening silence,” I want to share my “coming out” story. \nI think all people should be respected and loved and treated fairly. As a Christian, I strive toward loving people as I observe Jesus loving people in the New Testament – unconditionally. I am imperfect and make mistakes every day. And whenever possible, I want to have the opportunity to correct my mistakes.\nAs a Christian, I also have beliefs about the nature of same-sex attraction. Most often, I find that my beliefs differ from the beliefs of gay and lesbian people. I do not bang people over the head with my beliefs but I hold them nonetheless. I think I am able to disagree about the nature of homosexuality while still loving and respecting all people. I have five gay uncles who I love tenaciously. I love and respect many people with whom I disagree on various matters. I often think that I am being asked to accept (rather than respect) the beliefs of gay and bisexual people. \nI love and respect all people as beautiful creations of a loving God. Please love and respect me, too. \nSincerely involved in dialogue,
My coming out story
