What everyone is talking about this WEEKEND

Chris Pickrell

Live From Bloomington:

Any local musician wishing to submit a song to the Live From Bloomington compilation should pick up an application from Tracks, Landlocked Music or the Union Board office. Submissions are due Nov. 13.

Sanctions:

News broke earlier this week that IU men's basketball coach Kelvin Sampson violated NCAA rules by exceeding the number of allowable phone calls to recruits -- again. While IU's self-imposed punishments are not slaps on the wrist (Sampson will forfeit $500,000 in pay), the worst punishment will be hearing fans from opposing teams chant "Call me, Sampson" at away games. At least get some creative jeers, people.

Big Red Beer Festival:

It's that time of year again. The 15th annual Big Red Beer Fest sloshes its bubbly goodness into B-town on Thursday and Friday, just in time for Homecoming weekend. With more than 200 imports and microbrews on tap, you may need to go both nights to try them all.

Charlize Theron:

The blonde, silver-screen starlet was named the Sexiest Woman Alive by Esquire Magazine. The editors must not have seen the movie "Monster."

T.I.:

The self-described King of the South is being held in federal custody on gun possession charges. T.I., who raps about coming up in the game pushing cocaine, was arrested with four guns, ranging from handguns to automatic rifles. His ex-bodyguard ended up being a police informant. C'mon, T.I., if you want to be a gun-toting gangster, at least pay your people enough not to rat on you.
