Local man charged with burglary for second time

The Bloomington man charged with burglarizing several Varsity Villas apartments faces an additional preliminary charge of possession of stolen property. \nJustin Franklin, 23, was arrested Aug. 26 after the Bloomington Police Department investigated multiple burglaries in the Varsity Villas, located at 2015 N. Dunn St., BPD Sgt. Jeff Canada said, reading from a police report.\nA Bloomington resident living in the 300 block of E. 19th Street told police Aug. 31 that he had property stolen from him, Canada said. According to a police report, the resident notified officers of the burglary after realizing his laptop had been stolen. He told officers he may have left his door unlocked.\nBPD discovered the laptop while investigating Franklin for the other burglaries. Franklin, who was already in jail, received an additional preliminary charge of possession of stolen property, Canada said.

Preliminary drug charges filed against Bloomington man

A Bloomington man was arrested Thursday after dealing drugs to a police informant. \nRyan Udell, 23, faces preliminary charges of dealing a schedule I, II and III controlled substance, maintaining a common nuisance and possession of marijuana, Canada said, reading from a police report.\nAfter Udell sold liquid methadone to a police informant, BPD obtained a warrant to search Udell’s residence. BPD Det. Bill Jeffers found marijuana and prescription bottles of liquid methadone inside the residence, Canada said. \nUdell had received the liquid methadone from a clinic in Indianapolis, according to a police report. After being arrested, Udell admitted to officers that he provided the methadone but did not receive any money for the drugs, according to the report.

Outstanding arrest warrant served after beer theft

A Bloomington man was arrested after informing a BPD officer that there was a warrant out for his arrest.\nWilliam E. Chambers, 29, contacted BPD on Friday after somebody stole a beer from his porch, Canada said. He told officers he did not want to report the crime, he just wanted it to be known. \nWhen officers were leaving, Chambers told them he might have a warrant out for his arrest, Canada said. \nWhen officers ran his name, they found a warrant for criminal mischief. \nChambers was arrested and transported to the Monroe County Jail.
