Motorcyclist injured in crash

Bloomington Police Department Reports

A Bloomington man was seriously injured Monday night after his motorcycle collided with a van. \nBloomington Police Department officers received a call at about 11:40 p.m. Monday regarding an accident that occurred in the 3000 block of South Walnut Street, said BPD Sgt. Jeff Canada. When officers arrived, a man was in the middle of the road. After searching the scene, officers noticed a motorcycle off to the side, Canada said.\nRickie Clarke, 50, was found unconscious at the scene and had visible head injuries. Several witnesses stated Clarke was leaving the Southern Winds Inn, located at 3000 S. Old State Road 37, and did not come to a complete stop before turning onto South Walnut Street, according to the police report. \nA witness told Officer Jeff Rodgers that Clarke had been drinking, but the witness did not believe Clarke was intoxicated, Canada said. A 17-year-old was driving the van, and officers said she had not been drinking, Canada said. Alcohol might have been a factor in the accident.\nClarke was transported to Bloomington Hospital, where he was in critical condition. Officers said they did not believe he was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.

Woman arrested after near collision, altercation on road

A Bloomington woman was arrested Monday night for allegedly pointing a firearm at a family. \nPamela Dewig, 30, was a passenger in a truck that almost collided with another vehicle as it pulled onto Vernal Pike, Canada said. The passengers of the other vehicle were upset and yelled at Dewig and the driver of the car. As both vehicles headed south on State Road 37, occupants of both vehicles began making hand gestures and calling each other names, Canada said. \nThe victims said Dewig reached over the driver and pointed a firearm at their vehicle. The victims – a man, a woman and their 1-year-old child – slowed down, followed the truck and called 911, Canada said. \nBPD Sgt. Mick Williams located Dewig and found a handgun in the glove box of the vehicle, Canada said. BPD Officer Blake Cunningham arrived at the scene and asked the victims to describe the handgun. The victims were able to accurately describe the handgun in the glove box, Canada said. \nDewig told officers she did not pull a gun out “whatsoever,” Canada said. She was arrested for pointing a firearm and intimidation.

Husband, wife give false stabbing report to police department

Two Bloomfield residents were arrested Saturday night after falsely reporting that one of them had been stabbed. \nRoosevelt and Dana Hawthorne were staying at the Bloomington Econo Lodge, located at 2601 N. Walnut St., when Bloomington Police Department officers responded to a 911 call that Roosevelt Hawthorne was robbed and had received a knife injury, \nCanada said.\nWhen officers arrived, they located Roosevelt Hawthorne coming out of the women’s restroom at the Econo Lodge. He stated he was not injured and that he had lied so the police would respond to his 911 call faster, Canada said. Roosevelt said he was in the women’s bathroom because his wife, Dana, was sick, Canada said. \nAccording to the police report, Roosevelt Hawthorne told officers they had been “smoking crack and drinking” throughout the night. They went out to get more alcohol and when they came back, he saw two men coming out of his hotel room. Dana Hawthorne told her husband that he must be hallucinating, Canada said. \nOfficers received permission from the hotel manager to check the Hawthornes’ hotel room. Officers did not find anyone in the room but find did drug paraphernalia, Canada said.\nRoosevelt Hawthorne was arrested for false informing and maintaining a common nuisance. Dana Hawthorne was charged with maintaining a common nuisance and possession of paraphernalia.
