Man attempts to rob doughnut shop

Police are still looking for a man who attempted to rob Cresent Donut, 231 S. Adams St., Monday night. \nBloomington Police responded to a call around 10:50 p.m. Monday, said BPD Detective Sgt. Jeff Canada, reading from the police report. A female clerk at the store was working when a man dressed in dark clothes entered the shop and bought three doughnuts. When she placed them on the counter he told her he was robbing the store, Canada said.\nThe woman then looked at the robber and asked him if he was kidding, Canada said. The man repeated it was a robbery and told her he wanted all the money. As she questioned him again if he was joking, another patron entered the store and the man took off running when he saw the patron.\nPolice have no leads but are still searching for the subject, who was described as a 6-foot man in his early 20s with blonde hair.

Man arrested for beating wife, stabbing man

A man was arrested by Bloomington Police early Tuesday morning after striking his wife and then stabbing a man.\nWilliam E. Sweeney, 47, was arrested for battery with a deadly weapon, a class C felony, and domestic battery, a misdemeanor.\nSweeney was looking for his wife in the 3100 block of South Walnut Street Pike near the Arbor Glen apartment complex, said BPD Detective Sgt. Jeff Canada, reading from the police report. Sweeney had returned from out of town and was unable to locate his 26-year-old wife. When he found her, the two began to argue when he hit her in the head with a tire iron, Canada said, which was described by the report as a “small bat-looking piece.”\nThe two male friends with her then came to help her and got into an argument with Sweeney, Canada said. Sweeney then ran after them in pursuit and stabbed one of the men in his upper arm with a knife.\nThe man, 18, who was stabbed, was uncooperative and refused emergency treatment, Canada said. The man said he did not want to charge Sweeney.\nSweeney’s wife received treatment at Bloomington Hospital for injuries to her head. Sweeney was transported to the Monroe County Jail.

Sleeping man held at gunpoint Sunday

A man sleeping in his own apartment early Sunday morning awoke to find two men robbing his apartment. \nThe man, who lives in the 1600 block of Oakdale Drive, said two black men entered his apartment around 1:30 a.m., said Bloomington Police Department Detective Sgt. Jeff Canada. According to the victim, one of the men held him at gunpoint while the other went through his apartment looking for items to steal. The men escaped with a small amount of cash and electronic items, Canada said.\nThe victim, who said it was possible his door was unlocked, was out of town for a few days and did not report the crime until Monday afternoon. BPD Officer Jeff Alwine is expected to follow up on the case, Canada said.
