Police looking for armed robber; no arrests made yet

A man armed with what appeared to be a steak knife robbed a Speedway gas station Monday night, police said.\nAt about 11:45 p.m., a man walked into the Speedway at 2700 N. Walnut St. and displayed to the attendant what appeared to be a steak knife, according to Bloomington Police Department reports. The suspect asked the attendant to give him all the money. The attendant complied, and the suspect walked out of the store heading eastbound, BPD Detective Sgt. David Drake said, reading from the police report. The suspect is described as a black male about 30 years old, according to the report. He is about 5-foot-8 with a thin build, had "scruffy facial hair" and was wearing a black hooded jacket. The surveillance video is being \nanalyzed.

Robbery suspect says attempt wasn't 'serious'\nA Bloomington woman attempted to rob a Tobacco Road store Tuesday morning, police said.\nPolice arrested Vicky Ann Carter, 44, on preliminary charges of attempted robbery, a class C felony, and possession of cocaine, a class D \nfelony.\nOfficers were dispatched to Tobacco Road, 4001 W. Third St., in response to a report of a robbery, according to a Bloomington Police Department report. BPD officer Brian Werner spoke to the clerk who described Carter as a white female wearing a blue jacket and driving a white four-door Cadillac.\nThe clerk told Werner that Carter had been in the store two times that morning. The first time was at about midnight when Carter bought $3 in gas and asked the clerk for more money so she could buy more gas. The clerk refused, and Carter left. At about 4 a.m. the same morning, Carter returned to the store and began walking around. She then asked the clerk for $100. When the clerk refused, Carter told her, "If you're not going to give me the money, then I guess I'm holding you up," according to the report. \nThe clerk refused and again told Carter, "I'm holding you up," BPD Detective Sgt. David Drake said, reading from the report. When the clerk picked up the phone to call 911, \nCarter said, "Never mind," and left the store.\nPolice later determined where Carter was supposed to be and obtained a search warrant. There were four individuals inside the residence, and Carter matched the description of the suspect. Carter admitted being at the store but said she wasn't serious, according to the report.\nOfficers also found "an amount of white powder that tested positive for cocaine" in her purse.

Night deposit box burglarized\nA night deposit bank box from a Bloomington Fifth Third Bank was discovered \nto have been broken into Monday morning, a bank employee told the Bloomington Police Department.\nEleven deposit bags containing an undisclosed amount of money are missing from the night deposit box of the Fifth Third Bank at 3415 W. Third St., BPD Detective Sgt. David Drake said, reading from a police report. A piece of metal was sheared off the inside of the box. Half a wooden dowel rod with a fishing line and hook attached to it was found in the deposit box. Officers believe the perpetrators used this device to fish out the bags. There were no cameras monitoring this deposit box. There are no suspects at this time.
