Greeks plan weekend activities

Fraternities and student organizations alike are ready to entertain alumni and students during this weekend's homecoming activities.\nKappa Alpha Psi fraternity has a week's worth of activities lined up for the big weekend. The fraternity's junior grand vice polemarch Jared J. Dawson said some of the events include raising breast cancer awareness and an awards ceremony to honor faculty members.\n"We just came out with an award for three faculty members that have been prominent and key in the progression of minority students, and we are trying to reach out to them," Dawson said. \nKappa Alpha Psi will also host the Black Comedy Tour at 8 p.m. Friday in the Willkie Auditorium, which will last almost two hours. The tour features comedians Corey "Zooman" Miller and Leon Rogers. \nDotson said the tour is open to anyone who donates $2 or $1 and a canned good that the fraternity will donate to the community.\n"All the proceeds will help us make baskets that we are going to give to children in the community," Dawson said.\nAnother fraternity, Delta Upsilon, also plans to show its alumni a good time over the weekend. At the football game Saturday, alumni are pitching in to give the brothers a big tent for tailgating, and deodorant-maker Axe is also hosting a tent for the fraternity, Delta Upsilon President Josh Winer said.\n"One of the brothers is the Axe representative on campus," Winer said, "so we are all invited to the Axe tent, so we will be partying with them during the game. We also will have the Delta Upsilon tent as well for the alumni."\nThe fraternity will provide a grill on its front lawn to entertain its 100 to 200 expected alumni and will host other events that will take place at the house, Winer said. \n"We will be doing fishing on Third (Street), where we will put a slip and slide on the front lawn and everyone comes over. We have a grill out the same day, things like that," Winer said.
