57-year-old man beaten, robbed

Bloomington police say a 57-year-old man reported that he was the victim of an unprovoked assault Sunday morning on West Kirkwood Avenue.\nThe man said he was walking along Kirkwood when he saw a silver Jeep Cherokee headed eastbound go left of center and pull over and park next to him. He said two young white men in the vehicle in their late teens or early 20s asked him for directions, Drake said.\nThe man reported that they got out of the vehicle and punched him in the mouth, knocked him down and kicked him while he was on the ground. He said they went through his pockets and stole the $2 to $5 he had, as well as his credit cards.\nA witness confirmed the report and said he followed the men until they ran a red light at Third and Dunn streets.

Car stolen during Jiffy Treet delivery

Police arrested a man Sunday who they say stole a car from a Jiffy Treet delivery man while he was delivering an order.\nThe Bloomington Police Department filed preliminary charges of vehicle theft against Bloomington resident Andrew M. Kirk, 39.\nThe driver told police he parked his white 1990 Toyota in front of Smallwood Plaza, 455 N. College Ave., and left the engine running while he went inside to make a delivery. When he came back outside, he said, his vehicle was gone. Moments later, Deputy Troy Thomas of the Monroe County Sheriff's Department saw the vehicle and stopped it in a parking lot near 17th and Walnut streets.\nThomas pulled his squad car up to the driver's side so Kirk could not open the door and run away, but he climbed out a window, said BPD Detective Sgt. David Drake, reading from a police report. Thomas grabbed Kirk, but Kirk ripped through the deputy's shirt during the struggle and escaped.\nThomas lost him somewhere in the area of 16th and Walnut streets, Drake said.\nBPD officer Stephanie Barnes found Kirk in the area of 15th and North Lincoln streets, according to the report. He was shirtless.\nBarnes said in the report that Kirk appeared to be intoxicated.

Multiple gunshots fired early Saturday

Police say someone fired multiple gunshots early Saturday morning, but they are still not sure who did it.\nSeveral people were involved in an altercation that prompted the shots, said Bloomington Police Department Sgt. Mick Williams, reading from a police report, but so far, they have only arrested one person. Katricks D. Porter, 25, faces a preliminary misdemeanor charge of resisting law enforcement.\nOfficers responded to a report of an altercation at 1:30 a.m. Saturday in the 900 block of North Lindbergh Drive, according to the report. On the way there, they received reports of possible gunshots in the area.\nAs they arrived, they found Porter partially on the ground, appearing as if he were picking something up, Williams said. When he looked up at them, he ran away.\nAccording to the report, officers chased him and found him hiding in the 900 block of North Illinois Street and took him into custody.\nAfter talking to witnesses, officers said they believe a fight occurred at the North Lindbergh address but dispersed. Later, some of the individuals involved in the first fight returned to the residence, and another fight began. At that time, someone went into another house and came outside with a shotgun.\n"At least a couple of rounds were fired," Williams said.\nAfter the shots were fired, the fight broke up, witnesses said.\nOfficers recovered one shell casing. Nobody was struck by the bullets, and as far as police can tell, they did not hit any cars or buildings.
