Teen Flick Delivers

Amanda Bynes is quite the teen queen and unlike rivals Lindsay Lohan and Hilary Duff, not only can Bynes act, but she is also funny, which is why she was able to make this movie such a success. Writers Karen McCullah Lutz and Kirsten Smith, of "10 Things I Hate About You" and "Legally Blonde", bring you "She's the Man" a story that is much like a modern day version of Shakespeare's "Twelfth Night."\nAmanda Bynes plays Viola, a tomboy whose life is soccer. Viola is the star on the girl's team at Cromwell Prep until the school cuts the girl's team from their sports program. And when both the coach and her (ex) boyfriend snub her from playing on the guy's team, Viola decides to disguise herself as her twin brother, Sebastian (James Kirk) and play on the team of Cromwell's rival school, Illyria. Since Sebastian just enrolled at Illryia and nobody knows him there, Viola decides the timing couldn't be more perfect, especially since Sebastian decides he is going to London for the next two weeks.\nWhile in disguise, Viola meets her roommate and teammate Duke (played by Channing Tatum), who helps her gear up for the big game against Cromwell in exchange for dating advice. Viola gets herself tangled up in a nasty love triangle, and if you are unfamiliar with the trailer, you'll know that: Duke wants Olivia who likes Sebastian, who is really Viola, which leaves things very complicated, especially since Viola is desperate not to give away her real identity.\nNow, in the movie everyone believes Viola is really Sebastian. However, I don't think Amanda Bynes looks like a guy, and maybe that's because I am familiar with what she really looks like, but I just didn't find her disguise to be very convincing. Though, she is a good actress, funny and adorable. You could tell she just had so much fun making this movie because as a result it shows and it makes the movie enjoyable to watch. Channing Tatum is known for his roles in "Havoc" and "Coach Carter," and as a model-turned-actor, he actually does a pretty decent job in this movie. \nThere is no doubt that this movie is a chick flick, and I would classify it as something strictly for teens. It's cute, funny and at times cheesy, but it's cheerful and enjoyable all at the same time.
