Delightfully Devilish

One of the summers most buzzed about movies has finally hit theatres and it won't leave you disappointed. As an adaptation of Lauren Weisberger's best-selling novel, the movie brings to life the powerful fashion world and what its like to work in the industry. Directed by David Frankel (Sex and the City), "The Devil Wears Prada" was tastefully put together without overdoing it. \nAnne Hathaway (The Princess Diaries) stars as Andy Sachs, a young, gawky looking girl who's new to NYC and dreams of being a journalist. However, Andy soon finds herself applying at the high-profile fashion magazine, Runway, and to her surprise, and the surprise of everyone else who works there, she gets the job as the second assistant to the magazine's powerful editor-in-chief, Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep). Andy keeps herself busy answering phone calls and constantly running errands, trying to please her boss, yet she always seems to disappoint Miranda. \nDetermined to win Miranda over, Andy even goes through a makeover, thanks to the help of Runway's art director, Nigel (Stanley Tucci). Andy transforms herself from the out-of-style girl next door to the fashionable, Chanel wearing assistant running around in her Manolo Blahniks. The stylish Andy gets the approval of her Runway coworkers but fails to win over her boyfriend, Nate (Entourage's Adrian Grenier) who questions the person Andy has become since taking her new job. Andy is faced with deciding what is more important to her: a time consuming job, that if she keeps up for at least a year will get her a job at any newspaper in New York, or her sanity and morals, which used to include making fun of everyone in the fashion industry.\n"Devil" is highly entertaining and has a cast that helps do so. Meryl Streep was expertly cast as Miranda Priestly, and although it was a part far different from any other she has played, she nails it flawlessly, as her demeanor and facial expressions fit the character perfectly. Hathaway was great as Andy, her acting is continuously blossoming with each new role she takes on. The supporting cast of Stanley Tucci, Adrian Grenier and Emily Blunt (who plays Miranda's first assistant) were all great, as well. \nThe movie, though somewhat predictable, gives a very entertaining inside look at the fashion world and what it's like to work with one of the most powerful people in the industry. This movie is not a date movie and probably not a movie that a guy wants to sit through, though I highly recommend it to any female in her teens or older, as "Devil" is delightfully entertaining.
