Lincoln Room in Lilly Library honors president

Students seeking inspiration from one of the country's greatest presidents need look no further than the Lincoln Room in IU's Lilly Library.\nThe room pays tribute to Abraham Lincoln's Indiana roots. Lincoln's family moved to Indiana from Kentucky when he was 7 years old and stayed for the next 14 years before moving to Illinois.\nAmong the highlights of the room are furniture styled to Lincoln's era; a desk actually used in his Springfield, Ill., office; a bronze head; a pair of busts; and the first portrait to portray Lincoln with his trademark beard. It also includes a green wall covering used in Lincoln's White House and an 1865 painting by Joseph Ames that was the last portrait of Lincoln. \nThe Lincoln Room is also lined with books in the Indiana-Oakleaf Lincoln Collection, which comprises literature written by and about Lincoln.
