Gallagher gives 'smashing' performance Sunday

Famed comic pays explosive visit to IU Auditorium

Loud laughter filled the IU Auditorium, coming from all directions. Comic and entertainer Gallagher, who has been making people laugh for 35 years, put Sunday's audience into hysterics.\nGallagher's act included a little bit of everything, from simple jokes to twisted talks about everyday life to smashing pies. The infamous "Sledge-o-Matic" has been a staple at Gallagher shows for many years and hasn't disappeared yet.\nHighlights of the show included a rendition of the Bible and how life began, during which he said men were made of dirt and women of sugar and spice, which had the audience bursting out with laughter. Gallagher also talked about everyday affairs, such as the annoyances of people talking on their cell phones, having a baby, people in socks and sandals and a song about Osama bin Laden. \nGallagher ended the show with participants coming up and smashing various food items, such as watermelons, cake with mayonnaise and chocolate pudding, with the sledgehammer into the audience. Gallagher himself entered the action to show the young participants how the original Sledge-o-Matic king does it. To show his loyalty to the many fans, he also signed autographs after the show.\nBloomington resident Heather Davis said she was glad to have gone to the Auditorium to see the famous comedian. \n"For seeing the show for the first time, I thought it was really funny and entertaining. If I had the opportunity, I would definitely see Gallagher again," she said.
