A couple of summers ago, Alex Shortle got to pretend to be a cowboy in Wyoming. But he isn't pretending anymore, at least not about being IU's student body president.\nShortle enjoyed his summer he spent working on a ranch out west so much he plans on doing it again next summer. Working outside and doing something different every day were just two of the things he enjoyed about his job. But when Shortle does take a break from his responsibilities, here's what he's into:\nMusic\nWho needs lyrics? Not Shortle. "I love atmosphere music. I like bands that can rock and sometimes they get distracted by vocals" He digs post rock and instrumental music, noting that Mogwai and Tortoise are two groups he listens to frequently. \nMovies\nThough he ran under the ticket Vote For Pedro, "Napoleon Dynamite" is not one of his favorite movies. Epic films are the movies Shortle is most into. \n"My all time favorite movie is 'A River Runs Through It,' because of the connection with the brother." Adding that he likes any movie with a great sound track. Other flicks like "The Believer" strike his interest.\nRecently, he saw "A Very long Engagement" by director Jean-Pierre Jeunet.\n"I love his films not as much for the story but for their beauty." \nReading\nShortle is reader of The New York Times. He also tries to read The Economist but admits, "It's simply because I don't understand half of it, so it's, like, a challenge for me to read."\n"The idealism of the main character" in "The Fountainhead" by author Ayn Rand, is what draws Shortle into this book, which he considers his favorite. \nFood\n"The turkey and cranberry sandwich at the Bakehouse is ridiculous," which explains why The Scholar's Inn Bakehouse, 125 N. College Ave. and 3002 E. Third St., is one of his favorite places to get a sandwich. \nThe cajun creole cusine at Yats also get Shortles taste buds going.\nSports\nShortle is excited for this winter, not because he loves the snow but because the NHL will be back in full swing. "I'm very happy that the NHL is going to be back. It was a very boring winter without it."\nHe's also into Formula 1 racing and lists the BMW team as his favorite.\nGadgets\nWhile he does have a PDA and iPod, Shortle has downsized. He now just uses his Mac Powerbook because it combines the convenience as both the PDA and iPod into one.
